BellBrook Labs' Transcreener Platform Adopted by Life Science Technology Provider

Leading disease research and drug discovery company signs licensing deal to speed and enhance development of new therapies
Madison, WI – December 3, 2007 – BellBrook Labs, a leading provider of high throughput screening tools for the drug discovery industry, today announced that Invitrogen, a provider of essential life science technologies for disease research and drug discovery, is adopting BellBrook's Transcreener™ HTS Assay Platform as part of a technology licensing agreement.

Introduced in 2005, BellBrook Labs’ Transcreener HTS Assay Platform enables seamless incorporation of hundreds of new drug targets into high throughput screening. The Transcreener platform relies on proprietary methods for immunodetection of the nucleotide products of group transfer enzymes, enabling entire families of enzymes to be screened using the same detection reagents.

The power of the Transcreener platform is its broad applicability to so many diverse targets.  Rapidly increasing the customer base for the Transcreener platform means it will be applied to more of these diverse target types sooner, which will help demonstrate the power of the platform.

“We have received a tremendous response from the HTS commmunity since we introduced the concept of ADP immunodetection as a kinase assay method almost two years ago," said Bob Lowery, CEO of BellBrook Labs.  "We've achieved enough traction in the market that now is the right time to increase penetration through outlicensing, and Invitrogen has a very strong presence."

The Transcreener assay gives customers immediate access to hundreds of promising drug targets – many of which could not be screened before.  Expanding Invitrogen’s target menu and detection options will also enable screening programs that are more predictive of a drug’s actual performance in patients.  The result is development of drugs that are safer and more effective at treating disease.

The licensing agreement provides validation for the Transcreener platform and ensures that, in a highly competitive fast moving HTS market, BellBrook’s technology is applied broadly to a diverse number of targets.

About BellBrook Labs
Founded in 2002, BellBrook Labs provides the pharmaceutical industry with high throughput screening (HTS) tools that accelerate the discovery of effective therapies.  In 2005, with the development of the Transcreener™ Assay Platform, BellBrook Labs introduced HTS methods that removed the assay development bottlenecks restricting access to many promising therapeutic, ADME and safety drug targets. Data generated from these assays allow better prediction about how patients will respond to drugs and improves the business case for drug target testing and the development of new drug treatments.
