Increased instrumentation costs and limited budgets mean that most HTS labs rely on a single type of multimode plate reader, which may limit the detection modes that can be used. The ability of an assay technology to generate different types of readouts and perform well on a variety of plate readers is certainly an asset in this regard. Transcreener® assays are available in a three fluorescent detection modes.
- Time Resolved–Förster Resonance Energy Transfer (TR-FRET)
- Fluorescent Intensity (FI)
- Fluorescent Polarization (FP)
This allows the user to not only pick a mode that is best for the study, but also one that can be found on a plate reader in his or her own lab. No additional equipment required.
As new multimode readers are introduced to the market, the three Transcreener® detection modes are validated individually to ensure full compatibility and define optimal settings. Most recently, the Tristar2 LB 942, and Mithras2 LB 943 plate readers from Berthold Technologies were certified for use with BellBrook’s Transcreener® FI and TR-FRET Assay platforms by an independent lab at the University of Bonn in Germany. The testing for FP is in final stages and the results will be available soon. Please contact BellBrook for an updated status.
